William Mills

William Mills has sailed since childhood, exploring the Sussex coast in dinghies, harbours and river estuaries before graduating to yachts on the open sea. Since 1985 he has crossed the English Channel on numerous occasions and sailed further afield in the Mediterranean, where several of his exploits were published in Britain’s top‑selling magazine Yachting Monthly.

Onshore, William expanded his maritime knowledge while working at the chandlery in Shoreham‑by‑Sea harbour. His home in Brighton overlooks the water, keeping him close to the sea he writes about. A keen writer throughout his life, he attended journalists’ college in 2011 and worked as a reporter for several local newspapers before specialising in yachting journalism.

He first wrote the Snappy the Shark series for younger readers and their parents before publishing Pirates Deep, a YA nautical adventure inspired by real experiences at sea.
