Katie White

Katie White is a coordinator of learning for the North East School Division in Saskatchewan, Canada. Katie has been an integral part of her school division’s multiyear journey through educational reform, including a response to renewed curricula that resulted in a standards (outcomes)-based approach to assessment, learning, and reporting. She has a passion for helping educators develop a personalized understanding of the connections among curriculum, assessment, and instruction and creative approaches for reaching and teaching every single learner in every single classroom.

In living out this passion, she not only works within her system but serves as an independent educational consultant, speaking and facilitating teacher and administrator groups worldwide. Her sense of humor and flexible and responsive approach to adult learning makes her a sought-after professional support for systems and schools.

She is actively engaged in social media, cohosting the #ATAssessment chat and blogging for various educational groups including the Solution Tree Assessment Center. Katie has worked as a contracted writer and consultant for various organizations, including authoring learning support documents for LEGO Education as well as the Saskatchewan Professional Development Unit’s provincial accreditation manuals. Softening the Edges: Assessment Practices that Honor K–12 Teachers and Learners is her first book, and Unlocked: Assessment as the Key to Unlocking Everyday Creativity in the Classroom was released in December 2018.

Katie received a bachelor of education and master of education in curriculum studies from the University of Saskatchewan.
