Discussions of Chinese activities, especially those involving cyber, too often occur without placing them within the context of Chinese doctrine and strategy. The volume "Cyber Dragon" tries to provide a framework for understanding Chinese actions, by informing the reader of how the Chinese discuss "informationized warfare," "information warfare," and "information operations" among themselves.

Based on a variety of Chinese textbooks, teaching materials, and other authoritative documents, "Cyber Dragon" makes the argument that Chinese cyber activities, as well as broader political warfare activities, occur within a larger strategy aimed at securing "information dominance" and span much more than just viruses and hacked accounts.

Dean Cheng has been studying Chinese political and security developments for over 25 years. He has worked at a variety of think-tanks, including the Center for Naval Analysis, the Institute for Foreign Policy Analysis, and SAIC, as well as the Heritage Foundation. His research builds on a variety of Chinese materials, to bring to light how the Chinese talk about key issues such as space warfare and information warfare to their own military and civilian decision-makers.
