John Schook was born in California, November 1952 at a military base called Camp Cooke. Raised as a military dependent, he had the fortune to travel extensively in his youth. His father retired from military service in 1965 at Fort Bliss, Texas. This retirement allowed John to attend all four years at Burges High School and graduate in 1970.
In October of 1970, he entered military service with the US Army and served the next thirty years in a variety of positions with increasing responsibility. Trained as a light infantryman, he served in several infantry positions and obtained his Ranger Tab and Master Parachutist Badge. He ascended to the rank of Command Sergeant Major at the pinnacle of his career.
Following his military service, he entered the public-school teaching system and is currently teaching computer classes at Lake Worth Community High School, Lake Worth, Florida.
John was inspired to write this book when his youngest son Connor entered high school and was required to write an essay. To help his son, John said, “just put your thoughts down on paper and then expand them from there.” John’s thought process was to write a short story for his son to encourage him to write. He then went on to write the first nine chapters of the book over the next three months. Unfortunately, overcome by events, he set his book aside for the next three years. Finally encouraged by colleagues at his school, he began writing again and finished this work.
