In the field of digital humanities I deliver cutting edge research on bringing manuscripts and editions from scanned images to plain text. I also teach and promote digital methods.
I also investigate commentary writing in post-classical Islamic intellectual history, especially innovative ideas started by Ghazālī, Suhrawardī, and Ibn ʿArabī. I am currently working on the history of the idea of a world of image (ʿālam al-mithāl) as expressed by the commentators of Ibn Arabi's Fusus al-hikam.
