Selina Heed is a pseudonym. I have written in another genre but decided to use a different name for my contemporary novel.
Like most writers I'm a reader. I've enjoyed the classics; Jane Austen, Charlotte Bronte, not Emily, Mary Shelley, Henry Fielding, Oscar Wilde. Nowadays I read a mixture of historical fiction and contemporary fiction, as well as biographies. I discovered French writers in my teens, not in their original language, and enjoyed stepping into a different culture. I still enjoy reading foreign authors, one of my favourites is Isabel Allende.
I am a listener and have always attracted people who will tell me their life stories whilst we sit in a waiting room. My husband and I have been in a long queues and strangers will ignore others to walk up to us to ask their question. I am fascinated by people, their motives and their self-justification.
I am a bit of a film buff, preferring UK, or French films, to American. I avoid horror these days, my husband hates gory, but I have a soft-spot for vampire movies.
My ambition is to finally learn to speak French before Britain exits the EU.
When I say this novel came to me in a dream it sounds weird. But the basics did. It was the idea of a girl, who thinks she's found 'the one', feeling so betrayed by him she jumps on a plane to Rio (changed to Buenos Ayres later) then she travels to various countries learning about love and self-respect. During her travels she encounters different men; some she sleeps with some she doesn’t. Travelling allows her think to reassess her life, it also produces challenges. I realised I wanted to write the kind of book I want to read; about a girl's self-discovery, about living in different places and experiencing different cultures, about finding love.
I am still working on the full novel but decided to release 'Wander Lust and Star Dust' as three novellas.
All reviews would be greatly appreciated.
