Jim Hall

Jim Hall grew up in Falls Church, Va., and has lived in the Fredericksburg, Va., area for more than 40 years. He earned his bachelor's degree from Virginia Tech and his master's degree from Virginia Commonwealth University. He worked as a carpenter's helper and a farm hand before discovering newspaper work. He was a reporter and editor at the Caroline Progress, a weekly in Bowling Green, Va., and for more than 25 years, a reporter and editor at The Free Lance-Star, a daily in Fredericksburg.

He is retired now, and his first book, The Last Lynching on Northern Virginia, was published in September 2016 by History Press, a South Carolina publisher. He is the father of two sons, and in his spare time, does a lot of yard work and home repairs, and listens to a surprising amount of country music.
