Donna Hues

Donna gained a love for writing in the eighth grade when she wrote a parody of a favorite television show. Next, writing poems became a passion, expressing the emotions of a young hippie in the 1960s. After earning a Master’s in Art Education and a PHT (Putting Hubby Through) supporting her husband in seminary, she taught junior high and high school students and is sure she learned more from them than she imparted to her pupils. While undergoing cancer treatments, the Lord nudged her to revive her love for writing following retirement.

She was honored to receive the Cascade Award for her devotion in 2018, nominated by students five times to receive the Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers award, and her artworks are in several private collections.

Growing up in Portland, Oregon, she has lived in five states and traveled to five foreign countries. Since her favorite was Scotland, the home of her maternal grandfather, she based her first historical fiction novel, Without A Doubt, in that country. The second book in the MNM Mystery series, Eden Lake, follows the three friends back from Scotland. And the last book in this series, Nellie’s Quest, is a story about the first woman detective on the Portland Metropolitan Police Force. Hues’ characters discover that the twists and turns of life can have a profound effect on who they are and who they may become when delivered from the confinement of a faulty worldview. Donna writes compelling mysteries with spiritual depth based on life experiences, her own struggles, and her faith journey. She prays the message in her stories will touch her readers’ hearts as well.

When not writing, Donna enjoys reading, drawing, crafting, photography, camping with her husband, the love of her life, and music. She’s given up skateboarding and trying to stay up until midnight on New Year’s Eve. She feels blessed to live in a small community in Oregon’s beautiful Willamette Valley with her amazing, bagpipe-playing, encouraging husband. Three children and five grandchildren round out the family.
