Rick Patterson

Rick Patterson drew on his diverse experiences in writing this book. He is an engineer who is employed in corporate America, earned master’s and doctoral degrees in ministry, and served as an ordained pastor. After he and his wife adopted a sibling group of four African American children, he realized the pervasive effect of shame across religious, professional, racial, gender, and generational lines. Rick currently works in the paper industry and speaks and writes about how people can recognize and disarm shame to regain control of their lives. His current book, The Matthew Challenge, highlights the ways shame has infiltrated the white evangelical church in America.
