Professor Brian Tice, M.Sci. is a Hebrew and Judaica research scholar and education facilitator with Manuscript Research Group in Michigan. Since receiving semikha in 2000, he has served as a moreh, chazzan, and rabbi. He has appeared as a guest speaker on the "Torah Foundations of Faith" program and has given scholarly presentations on Jewish cantorial arts.
Professor Tice's formal education includes studies in Modern Languages and Music at Kalamazoo Valley Community College; Bible, Ancient Languages, and Youth Mentorship at Cornerstone University; Divinity Studies at Grand Rapids Theological Seminary; and Higher Education at Purdue University Global with emphasis on Classical Hebrew Andragogy culminating in Bachelor's and Master's degrees. He has also taken additional post-graduate Jewish Studies courses through Tel Aviv University/Coursera.
Over the past several years, Professor Tice has taught Biblical Hebrew, Biblical Aramaic, Tanakh Survey, and Jewish Studies. He has authored Reflecting on the Rabbis: Sage Insight into First-Century Jewish Thought (2017), Kosher Ketosis: A Treif-Less Approach to Keto Living (2019), The Other Cassius Clay: An Original Stageplay (2020), and the Introduction to a new release of Granville Sharp's A Letter Respecting some Particularities of the Hebrew Syntax (2017; orig. 1803). He is also the editor/compiler/translator of Sefer Tagin: An Ancient Sofer Manual (2021, Spanish edition 2022), and K'tav Tam Ashkenaz: A Compendium of Classical Sources on Jewish Scribal Rules (pending). Professor Tice's contributions to tikkun 'olam include service as an advocate for victims of violence crime, a board member for Habitat for Humanity and a frequent volunteer at Little Mary's Hospitality House (which serves families with children battling life-threatening, terminal, or debilitating illnesses or conditions), the Willing to Wait abstinence education program, Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Kalamazoo, Ministry with Community (a homeless drop-in center), and other outreaches to the homeless and/or disenfranchised.
