These were all the things that Cheryl Meyer was coping with when she got sick 9 years ago. Everything in her body hurt, and she was a life interrupted. Her significant other was fed up that she no longer felt good enough to go out all the time, and her health was impeding her ability to run a successful business.
She was frustrated and hurt. Her conventional MD did not know how to help her.

All her MD wanted to do was prescribe pills for her. Cheryl did not want a life of pain and pills.
So, Cheryl dug in and figured out the things she could do for herself, without her doctor, to improve how she felt. She discovered a series of stress exercises that lowered her chronic stress. She changed what she was eating started only eating organic sans chemicals and she started to cook all her food so that she could control what went into her body. She learned where all the toxic chemicals were in her life and started to eliminate them. In three short months, Cheryl started to feel better. She discovered a Functional MD, who ran totally different tests than her conventional MD. She discovered all the food sensitivities that she had and eliminated them. The Functional MD confirmed that she had autoimmune disease,
The result was, five years later she had eliminated hundreds of toxins from her life. Cheryl was mostly pain free. Although Cheryl will always have autoimmune disease, she is celebrating every day that she is feeling healthy and happy.
Cheryl started meeting others with similar complaints to hers. At 67, Cheryl decided to return to school to become a health coach. She had a BA in English from Berkeley, but she wanted the credibility of a health coaching certification.
She decided to write her first book as the manual that she wished she had had when she got sick. When she first started researching, she didn’t even know what she was looking for, so she thought this book would be invaluable for others. Her book makes it easy for others to do what she did. She identifies where to research, what she found and what to replace it with and she provides a workbook so that the reader can write down what they find and replace it when they run out of the old toxic product. In Fall of 2019 Cheryl updated and revised that book to speak to autoimmune patients, cancer patients and survivors and for people with heart disease. Toxins are at the root of all these diseases.
But just eliminating all the toxins in Cheryl’s immediate world was not enough. Cheryl did not live an isolated life. She had to discover, how to live out in community She no longer eats the American Standard Diet, so she does not eat what her friends and family eat. Her second book shares Cheryl’s tips to remain low toxin out of self-defense. Once you feel great, you do not want to do anything that takes that away from you. Living Low Toxin in Community and Everyday Life was published in May 2020 to share how to live a happy healthy life with others who have not adopted her healthy habits. She included chapters on how to raise healthy children, and since she lost all three of her kitties to cancer, she included chapters on how to care for our beloved fur babies.

As a functional medicine doctor, I am delighted to read a book that offers easy to use tools, to improve our health and mitigate the consequences of daily toxin exposures, with easy whole food options.
