Julia Macfarlane

Julia Macfarlane lives in the extreme South of England, close to the sea in Bognor Regis, but was born and spent most of her life in the North East of England. She is proud to describe herself as a Smoggie (someone from Teesside, home to Europe's largest chemical industry) and her stories often reflect her Northern roots. She has an eye for character, an ear for dialogue and a cynical sense of humour running through her work.

She has been writing for years and had work appear in various publications.

Her career has spanned working as a Tax Officer for Her Majesty's Inspector of Taxes, being a French/German translator and working for various UK universities in the business/university areas.

Since taking early retirement she has been busy running the Bognor Regis Write Club, a group for would-be professional writers; being an active member of local walking and natural history groups; taking part in the Dickens Fellowship Portsmouth activities (she is a Charles Dickens Super-fan); enjoying her grandkids; spoiling rotten her cockapoo; oh, and helping her husband have an enjoyable retirement. She also leads bemused tourists around Chichester on a ghost walk from time to time. In fact, anything she can find to do that prevents her sitting at her desk and writing any fiction.
