NILSY RAPALO

Nilsy Rapalo, graduated in Psychology from Universidad del Norte (Barranquilla, Colombia) in the year 1996, also graduated as specialist in Clinical Psychology from the same university in 1998. She has completed two researches on domestic violence in 1996 and another one on mental issues on healthy, infertile women; she has worked in the area of mental health in California and South Carolina since 2000. She wrote a wellness column for the Spanish newspaper El Informador (for the Charleston area) since 2009. She is also the author of the inspirational book Inmigración Espiritual: Un Camino de Inspiración y Bienestar, published by Palibro in 2015. She has served as Designated Examiner for Dorchester Court. She is an EMDR specialist (a therapeutic technique that processes trauma with the movement of the eyes) at the Department of Mental Health, where she has been working since 2002. She was the employee of the year for this state agency in 2007 and got the award for The Hispanic Woman of The Year in March 2015 on the Women History Month by the Hispanic Statewide Parade & Festival. Founder member and current president of HBA (Hispanic Business Association in Charleston area). She is a current advisory board member of the South Carolina Commission for Minority Affairs at the Governor’s Office; advisory board member of the Disability Affairs Committee (University of South Carolina), and served as board member of the Committee for Hispanic Affairs at the Nursing School of the Medical University of South Carolina. She was certified as a life coach by the International Coach Academy, Australia, in 2009; in her company, Wellness and Beyond, LLC, she offers coaching services to international clients, provides training to schools, the Abrazos program and organizations like PASOS (Mexican Consulate). In the year 2016 she started facilitating retreats for women at Circulos De Bienestar, an organization in which she is a member as well co-founder. For several years she presented a wellness segment at the radio station El Sol in Charleston; since September 2014 she hosted a weekly segment about wellness at the radio program Carambola Show (Los Angeles, CA). This program is broadcasted in Tijuana, Mexico and 15 radio stations in the United States in Arkansas, California, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, New Mexico, Ohio, Texas, Utah, Virginia and Wyoming. She is a member of the Black and Brown Alliance, ambassador for the Go Red for Women campaign for the year 2017 and member of the Community Board for the American Heart Association. She won the first place at the North Texas Book Festival (book in Spanish category), April 15, 2017.
