Sonya Gropman

Sonya has a background as a visual artist (painter and photographer). She has a longtime interest in all aspects of food (reading about it, cooking it, eating it!) including a strong commitment to eating and supporting local food whenever possible. She has been the co-ordinator of Farm Spot, the CSA (community supported agriculture) in her neighborhood of Jackson Heights in New York City since 2009.

Sonya and her mother, Gabrielle Rossmer Gropman, decided to research and co-write The German-Jewish Cookbook: Recipes & History of a Cuisine as a way to preserve the cooking traditions of their family because they realized it was a vanishing tradition that few people were familiar with. And because they wanted to share its many delicious dishes.
