Ed McGlynn

Ed McGlynn, retired from high school teaching in the urban trenches and later retired as a university prof. I was born into the Sonnenberg family in the Dutch West Indies, and I came to the USA just before the country entered WWII in the Roosevelt, 1940's era. Arriving in New York Harbor,we were arrested on charges of being German spies.

Having an Irish stepfather helped me see the humor and joys in life in raising a family with often unforeseen, hilarious results. I still marvel that two little girls could destroy a toilet or that the girls' teacher heard that I tied my wife to the bed every night--it was traction for a slipped disc. Then too there were the pains of dealing with an Alzheimer's parent.

As for high school teaching , some teachers refer to it as a donkey ride through hell.
