Walter J. Matweychuk

Dr. Walter J. Matweychuk earned his Ph.D. in school and clinical psychology from Hofstra University in 1990. He also holds a B.A. and an M.S. from the University of Pennsylvania. He was formally trained in the use of Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy by Dr. Albert Ellis, the founder of Rational-Emotive-Behavior Therapy in New York City. As a student at the University of Pennsylvania, he was initially exposed to cognitive behavior therapy while working at the Center for Cognitive Therapy, which was directed by Dr. Aaron T. Beck. Dr. Beck is the founder of Beck's Cognitive Therapy.

Dr. Matweychuk is a practicing psychologist at the Penn Behavioral Health Center in the outpatient psychiatry department of the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Matweychuk formerly served on a suicide prevention research team led by Dr. Aaron Beck and Dr. Gregory K. Brown. He also maintains an independent practice in Rittenhouse Square in downtown Philadelphia. Dr. Matweychuk is an adjunct professor of applied psychology at New York University and teaches a graduate course on Cognitive Behavior Therapy in the Steinhardt School.
