Rhiannon Adam

Rhiannon Adam was born in Co. Cork, Ireland and currently lives and works in London. She was educated at Central Saint Martins college of Art and Design (London), and at the University of Cambridge.

Rhiannon's work is primarily concerned with myth, nostalgia and the passage of time. She regularly undertakes long form projects, the results of which are often captured through the hazy abstraction of degrading instant film materials and other analogue processes. In 2013 she published her first book, Dreamlands Wastelands, a book of Polaroids taken in the "British" seaside towns of margate and Benidorm.

In 2015, she spent 3 months on Pitcairn Island, creating a documentary photography project and Radio 4 programme. A book of the work, Big Fence / Pitcairn Island, published by Blow Up Press, was released in April 2022, and was longlisted for the Kraszna-Krausz photobook of the year.

When she isn't working on her own projects, she regularly teaches workshops, specialising in emulsion lifting with instant film.

As well as her own work, she also publishes photography books under the name Lost Cat. The first title, Kevin Griffin's Omey Island: Last Man Standing was released in 2013. Rhiannon also curates exhibitions, and collaborates with artists wishing to develop their projects for exhibition.

Her book, Polaroid: The Missing Manual was first published by Thames and Hudson in Autumn 2017. The book covers almost everything that Rhiannon could think of including, both historical, technical, and creative.

For photography sales, Rhiannon is represented in the UK by Open Doors Gallery, and commercially by At Trayler.

In 2022 it was announced that Rhiannon would be one of eight crew members aboard SpaceX's starship, as a part of the dearMoon project. The mission will involve a lunar circumnavigation, where the civilian crew will spent a week in space and make work responding to the experience.
