As an award-winning speaker, certified trainer, and president and founder of Running on Faith Ministry, Rick loves speaking to, conversing with, and challenging audiences of all sizes, ages, and backgrounds.

Rick grew up on a farm near Gaylord, KS. Despite never running more than a half mile and always being among the last chosen for playground teams, he set five major goals at the age of eight.

Rick moved to the “Little Apple,” Manhattan, KS, after his sophomore year at Smith Center High School. At Manhattan High School, Rick was co-captain of the 1984 cross-country team that was alphabetized among the best in America by The Harrier. He later placed 47th in the Boston Marathon and 86th at New York.

Rick has run over 142,000 lifetime miles in temperatures ranging from 118F to a 13-miler at 35F below zero with wind-chill at minus 70F. He once ran 25 miles after church on New Years Day in a wind-chill of minus 25 to -30F degrees. Another run consisted of traversing 13 miles over completely ice covered hilly country roads without falling down...until after the run in his living room. The solid footing of the carpet threw off his balance...

Additionally, he assisted in coaching high school state champions and state record holders. Rick also assisted Lyle Claussen’s University Nebraska at Kearney cross country teams that placed 8th, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 7th in NCAA Div. II between 1990 and 1995. He is also past national president of Beta Sigma Psi Fraternity.
