I live in the French Quarter above a coffee shop with a gallery over Royal, a swimming pool and an elevator. It is quite magical and incredibly beautiful. I have three amazing sons and four grandsons and fabulous daughters-in-law.
Look for my made for television series Oracle Girl, in the near future. Here is an overview:
New Orleans, Louisiana is the laissez faire playground for a psychiatrist performing human experimentation during the Cold War. Dr. Robert Heath's malevolent work as architect of the first MK Ultra program in the U.S. is revealed by Mrs. Levenia Jackson, 87, who saved his discarded files in paper bags in her attic when he was forced out of Tulane University, disgraced for deep brain electrode experiments along with LSD, hypnosis and radiation of unwitting subjects.
Amelia and Huelo (introduced in the novel Duped, both in "the program" as children- think GATE,) follow clues to find Ms. Levenia (she was his housekeeper '49-'80) and piece together truths long hidden, featuring flashbacks of Dr. Heath's initiation into upper crust New Orleans' society, and its underbelly.
Huelo is undercover, investigating current abuses of the vulnerable Black population in NOLA, ground zero for an international organ cartel run by a prestigious medical center's transplant surgeons. Government sponsored illicit human experimentation never really goes away... it just goes underground , then morphs, like cicadas.
Ms. Levenia's mute, autistic savant great granddaughter, Naomi (Oracle Girl,) writes prophecies for Ebenezer Baptist in the 7th Ward. Her aunties sing in Gospel Tent at Jazz Fest and try to protect her from the Houston mega churches who wish to profit from her. Ms. Levenia's youngest daughter, Tiger, (a love child of Dr. Heath and Ms.Levenia) is an operative who was also reared in "the program."
Memphis (ex-military, Black community maven who sets the price for weed in the French Quarter) is a complex Robin Hood. Dr. Mengalstein is the dirty Chief of Transplant at Tulane Medical Center, employing smoke and mirrors community initiatives actually designed to bring in more bodies. Gulf War vet Black Herman is a strategist for BLM protests. They all keep things cookin' in this New Orleans historical based faction (Roman a clef) thriller. BLM protests and Covid 2020 goings on punctuate this series set in Spring, 2020 New Orleans, Louisiana.
I am also working on a non-fiction book entitled "Undiagnosed." This is my Opus, a twenty four year journey involving clinicians from Mayo to Cleveland Clinic and beyond, who misdiagnosed me, never considering lymphedema, for 24 years, through 29 mostly exploratory surgeries, as I fought for my life. Dr. Maxim Itkin at UPENN, part of ARPA-H, along with Stanford and NIH, saved my life. 1 out of 35 in the U.S. suffers from a lymphatics disorder. Illuminating and helpful as it was designed to be over the two decades I suffered. I'm now well, and incredibly grateful to Dr. Maxim Itkin and to God and the Universe xoxo Christine
