Eric Michael Cohen

Eric Michael Cohen describes himself as "as author by necessity".

"When a journey involves finding or creating new paradigms, strategies or approaches, it often tells a story that will be of value to someone else travelling a similar road in the future. I try to write the book that I wish someone would have given me when I started my journey."

Eric's first published work, "The Canine Strategies Workbook: For People Who Love Their High-Energy, Fearful, Willful and/or Reactive Dogs" fits that mold perfectly. The personal experience of adopting three "pit bull" type dogs necessitated a quick and comprehensive understanding of dog psychology and behavior.

"Due to the numerous contradictory approaches in the world of dog training, I needed to come up with a criteria for success by which any action or strategy could be measured. Essentially that criteria was:

1. It has to be effective.

2. It has to "feel right". I need to be comfortable with the approach or I won't do it.

3. It has to be non-violent.

4. I need to be able to understand it well enough to explain it to someone else.

5. If I explain it to someone else, they need to be able to modify it such that conditions 1-4 are met for their situation."

Eric draws on his background in marriage repair, life coaching as well as numerous workshops, seminars and research into dog training and behavior work. He is the owner of Canine Strategies, a behavioral and relational consulting company just south of Boston, MA where he lives with his wife, their dogs and their cats.
