Steve Smith

Steve Smith taught French for 33 years in English secondary schools. His first degree was in French and Linguistics. He holds an MA in Languages and Literature in Education (MFL) from the University of London. He now blogs, writes books and resources, presents, and trains language teachers. He was for several years a Visiting Lecturer and Lead Subject Tutor for the University of Buckingham PGCE course. He has written and presented for the AQA exam board in England. He is author or co-author of five books for language teachers and writes the popular resource site frenchteacher.net, to which roughly 1100 schools and teachers subscribe around the world. He is an occasional speaker at conferences in England, Scotland and Ireland, and in schools. He curates the website informedlanguageteacher.com and has a YouTube channel with screencasts about many aspects of language teaching. he has published articles in Impact (the Chartered College of Teaching) and ResearchEd magazine. He has contributed a chapter to the new edition of Teaching Foreign languages in the Secondary Classroom (eds Pachler and Redondo (2024)). Since he retired from the classroom he cannot stop thinking and dreaming about language teaching!
