Sly James

Kansas City Mayor, Sly James was born and raised in Kansas City and learned valuable lessons about resiliency and dedication watching his parents work hard to take care of their family. This laid the foundation for Mayor Sly’ commitment to education and ensuring every child receives a high-quality education regardless of where they live or their socio-economic background.

Mayor Sly James attended Bishop Hogan High School in Kansas city and after serving as a military police officer during the Vietnam War, Mayor Sly James Graduated cum laude from Rockhurst College. He then went on to earn his law degree, also cum laude, from the University of Minnesota. Prior to his election in 2011 Mayor Sly James enjoyed a successful legal career which spanned almost three decades. Mayor Sly James has four children and two grandchildren, whom are part of the inspiration for this book.
