Manuel Matas M D

Dr. Manuel Matas is the author of The Borders of Normal: A Clinical Psychiatrist De-Stigmatizes Paranormal Phenomena, which was a #1 Amazon Best Seller in two categories - Parapsychology and Unexplained Mysteries. The Borders of Normal is a Whistler Independent Book Awards finalist and it was longlisted for The Miramichi Reader's 2021 The Very Best Book Awards.

Dr. Matas is a clinical psychiatrist with forty years experience working in the mental health field. He obtained his Medical Degree from the University of Manitoba and his Diploma in Psychiatry from McGill University. He worked mostly in university teaching hospitals and more recently in private practice.

He served on the Board and the Scientific Council of the Canadian Psychiatric Association, as well as the Boards of Psychiatrists Against Psychiatric Abuse, Physicians for Social Responsibility, The Manitoba Satir Institute, and the Learning Institute for Growth, Healing and Transformation.

He was featured on CBC Radio's Tapestry with Mary Hynes, NDE Radio with Lee Witting, Coast to Coast AM with George Noory, Midnight in the Desert with Dave Schrader, The Other Side of Midnight with Jonathan Womack, Whitley Strieber's Dreamland podcast, The God Show with Pat McMahon, The Aquarian Network, Nocturnal Frequency Radio, Edge Science and OM Times Magazine.

His accomplishments include many published articles in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at national psychiatric conferences. As he discusses in The Borders of Normal, he has had a number of experiences that could be deemed "anomalous" or "paranormal"; these include near-death and out-of-body experiences, precognitive dreams, visions, and encounters with message-bearing apparitions.

It is his hope that by sharing his knowledge of and experiences in both psychiatry and the world of the unknown, he will help to normalize and de-stigmatize paranormal and psychic phenomena, thereby allowing readers to recast their spiritual encounters as cogent and deeply meaningful.
