Dr. Edgar E Blanco is a Director at Amazon Logistics and a Research Affiliate at the MIT Center for Transportation & Logistics. He has over twenty years of experience in designing and improving logistics and supply chain systems. His professional background includes last mile strategy at Walmart eCommerce, Inventory Optimization at Retek (now Oracle Retail), network design at Bellsouth (now AT&T) and advisor to start-up companies.
Dr. Blanco also spent 11 years as Research Director and Principal Scientist at MIT. He is widely recognized as an expert on carbon footprint assessments of global supply chains and environmental impact of freight transportation and logistics activities. He is also the founder of the MIT Megacity Logistics Lab, a pioneering initiative in the field of urban logistics, where he integrated consumer and retail behavior in emerging markets with urban morphology, mobile phone technologies, visualization and logistics analytics.
Dr. Blanco was born in Bogotá (Colombia) and lives in Seattle with his wife Marcela and his dog Chewbacca. He received his Ph.D. from the School of Industrial and Systems Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology. His educational background includes a B.S. and M.S. in Industrial Engineering from Universidad de los Andes (Bogotá, Colombia) and a M.S. in Operations Research from the Georgia Institute of Technology.
