Garnet Hillman

Garnet is a nationally recognized educational consultant and author who has extensively researched and implemented standards based learning, assessment, and grading on a classroom and district wide level. She spent three years as an instructional coach and fifteen years in the classroom as a World Language instructor in the Chicago area prior to shifting to full time consulting. Garnet has worked with educators around the country and presented at a variety of conferences opening minds to the possibilities of a shift to healthier grading practices. She provides a practical approach to establish grading and assessment practices that support learning. Garnet is also a co-moderator of the bi-monthly standards based learning chat (#sblchat) on Twitter.

In her free time, Garnet can be found spending time with her husband, Shawn, and supporting her two sons, Julian and Jackson, on the soccer field. She and her family live in the southwest suburbs of Chicago.
