There is a name written and a name label on the front end paper. There is some soiling and a few numbers stamped on the end papers. The spine has a light lean and light fading on the spots where the dust jacket portions are missing. The dust jacket has edge tears, some tape repairs on the edges, some surface tears on the back and a large portion missing on the bottom spine end and a smaller portion missing on the top spine end area. 293 pages. This was originally published serially in England under the title The Devil and Her Son. Maxwell March was a pseudonym for Margery Allingham.

A Russian prince seduces an innocent young servant, leading to her pregnancy and subsequent termination from her job, forcing her into a life of poverty and degradation. The second of three films produced by Samuel Goldwyn to star the then-unknown Sten, who Goldwyn believed would become the "new Garbo," a prediction which ultimately proved incorrect. Set in Moscow. 7.5 x 9.5 inches. Very Good plus overall.
