James still lives in Massachusetts with his wife and two children. His daughter and son are always writing something—video game stories, comic strips, movies, and rap songs for school projects; see "Not a Lot (of Glue)". James created the Pocket Protectors series especially for them.

James’s sixth-grade characters are tested as much by life and anxiety as they are by the mysterious villain that threatens the world. Even more than the superpowers they get, the group of friends must rely on each other to save the day.
