Rachel Bublitz

Rachel Bublitz is an award winning and internationally produced playwright known for telling stories about women, and creating exciting new work for young performers. Originally from San Diego, she started to write plays while living in Berkeley, California in 2012. Theatre Bay Area presented her with the prestigious Will Glickman Award for best new play for her full-length "Ripped," produced at Z Space in San Francisco. In 2015 she was recognized as the top emerging female playwright in the Bay Area, receiving the June Anne Baker Prize from PlayGround. Her work has been produced at theaters and schools across the country, as well as Canada and England. She’s been commissioned by Custom Made Theatre Company ("Of Serpents & Sea Spray"), PlayGround ("Mommy Dances With The Devil"), and Stage Partners ("The Book Women"). Her full-length "Burst" was selected for MACH 33, a festival of science plays at the Pasadena Playhouse. She has published plays with Playscripts ("Biz Town," "Ghost House," and "Operation Chicken Takeover"), Dramatic Publishing ("The Night Witches"), Stage Partners ("The Book Women," "Of Serpents & Sea Spray," "The Red House Monster," and "I Said Run."), and YouthPLAYS ("The Elves" and "No Talking Allowed!"). Rachel moved to Salt Lake City, Utah, in 2016, with her husband and two children. Since the move, Rachel has worked closely with the Egyptian YouTheatre, located in Park City, where she’s the Resident Playwright and has received multiple commissions ("Cheerleaders VS. Aliens," "The Night Witches," and "The Summer I Howled"). She’s also had the opportunity to develop her work with many other Utah theaters, including Salt Lake Acting Company, Good Company Theatre, the Utah Shakespeare Festival, and Plan-B Theatre, where she is a member of The Plan-B Lab.
