Richard Rutschman is a seasoned experiential educator, facilitator and presenter that has worked to create innovative school improvement programs in Chicago at Northeastern Illinois University’s Center for College Access & Success where he has administered programs on dropout prevention, post-secondary preparation, integrating experiential learning, restorative discipline practices, and enhancing motivation. The last decade his focus has been on enhancing motivation of vulnerable students by blending Experiential Education and Motivational Interviewing. He leads frequent workshops on these topics in the US and abroad (including in Spanish). He's bicultural because he was born and raised in South America. Prior experiences include a school principal/Executive Director, Science & Spanish teacher and counselor. He received the Association for Experiential Education’s Michael Stratton Award in 1999. He has a doctorate in Adult Education (Northern IL University) and is part of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers. He is retired from his University work, yet continues to present at conferences and offer professional development workshops to providers from various fields interested in enhancing motivation.
