Terry Atkinson

Terry Atkinson (born in 1949 in Newcastle upon Tyne) was educated privately at boarding school and after a brief time working for the Inland Revenue became a police officer, rising to the rank of detective chief inspector, investigating major crime including murder, extortion and terrorism. Most of his service was spent in various fields of investigation, including professional standards. Before retiring he headed the department that dealt with covert operations, intelligence, witness protection, informants (C.H.I.S.), technical support and other sections relating to the seemier side of policing. On retirement, he became the security manager for The Metrocentre, Europe’s largest out of town shopping and leisure centre and his team won a number of awards and accolades for their work. He then worked as a security consultant for 4 years, specialising in business continuity and recovery.

Throughout his career, he enjoyed writing and, with grandchildren to entertain, developed a liking for story telling. He has written a trilogy of fictional stories, based on his own experiences, chronicling the lives of two brothers for whom the wheels of justice grind too slowly, if at all, and their aim is to to accelerate the process by unconventional means. A Bullet For Me is the start of that adventure, followed by A Kill Too Far then The List. A number of colleagues have come to him with their own, very unique, experiences, so watch out for new books in due course.

From the age of 14, he also enjoyed writing rhyme, and this has culminating in his writing the book, 'What the Dickens?' a collection of 10 of Dickens' works told in amusing rhyme. He is currently working on a similar book on the plays of William Shakespeare, for publication in 2022.

To date, all of his royalties have gone to charity, particularly to Macmillan, who cared for his dying younger sister.
