Andy Lee Roth’s current research emphasizes the importance of a free press for democratic self-government and how corporate news media narrow the scope of legitimate public debate. As associate director of Project Censored—a non-profit media watchdog organization established in 1976—he coordinates the collaborative efforts of hundreds of college and university students and dozens of faculty members from campuses across the country to educate the public about the importance of independent, investigative journalism for social justice and a democratic society. He earned a PhD in Sociology at UCLA and a BA in Sociology and Anthropology at Haverford College.
