Janet MacNeil

Janet MacNeil grew up in rural Pennsylvania, where she developed a love of nature and science while exploring the nearby forests with her father. After getting degrees in Earth Science and Environmental Pollution Control from Penn State University, Janet worked as an environmental engineer, technical writer, and environmental consultant. When she began volunteering at her children's school organizing Math and Science Nights and creating outdoor classrooms, Janet realized that science education was her passion.

Currently, she is the preK-8 Science Curriculum Coordinator for the Brookline Public Schools (Massachusetts) and Science Methods adjunct professor for Simmons College. She is a curious lifelong learner who is passionate about inspiring teachers and students to develop a love of Science and Engineering. Janet is an NSTA curator (curating classroom resources for the NGSS@NSTA Hub). She also is a member of the ACHIEVE Peer Review Panel for Science (reviewing science instructional materials for developers), the MA DESE Assessment Development Committee for 5th Grade Science, and the MA Science and Technology/Engineering Curriculum Framework Review Panel.
