She is called, wife, friend, sister, mentor, daughter, and many more titles but her greatest role is that of being mom to 6 children. Married to her best friend of nearly 20 years and living out her dream of a small homestead life, Dawn is happiest when picking blackberries, walking barefoot, watching her children play, thanking God for all his blessings, and, of course, writing.
Past works include contributor articles to magazines such as Grit, Mary Jane's Farm and various parenting blogs around the web as well as a 15-year stint as a social worker and Department of Job and Family Services professional development trainer.
When 2016 rolled around and Dawn learned at birth that her youngest child had Down Syndrome, she added advocate to her list of titles.
With God's leading Dawn launched the site www.cedarsstory.com in March 2016 and quickly won the #1 Down Syndrome Blog title from Feedspot.com. Followed by parents around the globe on Instagram and Facebook, Dawn seeks to connect, encourage, educate, and empower those who find themselves in the same spot she did when learning of the diagnosis. She also hopes that by writing children's books such as "Down on the Farm," she will help to bring awareness to the abilities of those who have Down Syndrome and in turn begin erasing antiquated stereotypes.
Dawn donates 10% of all profits from the book to various Down Syndrome non-profit agencies.
