Carmen Joy Imes

My career in Biblical Studies began in 2nd grade, when I gathered my friends on the playground during recess to begin a Bible read-through. I never really moved on to other interests, though I'm curious about nearly everything! I earned a BA in Bible/Theology (Multnomah University), an MA in Biblical Studies (Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary), and a PhD in Biblical Theology with a concentration in Old Testament (Wheaton College). After four years teaching Old Testament at Prairie College in Alberta, I moved to Biola University in Southern California, where I serve as Associate Professor of Old Testament. I'm particularly passionate about bridging the gap between the church and the academy, helping laypeople discover accessible resources for biblical study. I write regularly for Christianity Today, serve as a Holy Post Pundit, and appear on various podcasts. My current major research and writing project is a commentary on Exodus for Baker Academic.
