Chow-Yang Lee is the Professor and Endowed Presidential Chair in Urban Entomology at the University of California, Riverside, USA. Before this, he was a Professor of Entomology at Universiti Sains Malaysia for 23 years. His research direction centers around understanding behavioral, ecological, and physiological adaptations of urban insect pests and how they help them thrive in the urban environment. He also is interested in the roles of human activities and propagule pressure in the invasion history of urban insect pests. He has published more than 230 peer-reviewed papers and books and trained 15 Ph.D. and 29 M.S students. Chow-Yang received many awards at international and national levels, including the National Taiwan University Visiting Professorship 2015, The 2012 Top Research Scientists Malaysia, The Outstanding Young Malaysian Awards 2008, Kyoto University Visiting Professorship (2007, 2011), HH Yap Award (2003), MSPTM Medal (2003), Fulbright Scholarship (2002) and the National Young Scientist Award (2000). He was the Past President of the Pacific-Rim Termite Research Group for two terms (2012 – 2016).
