Ken Niles is a retired librarian and manager from the National Library of Medicine (NLM), where he received numerous awards, including the prestigious Rogers Award. Prior to coming to NLM Ken was a Technical Services Librarian at American International College (AIC), his undergraduate college. In his earlier work-life he served as Library Technician at a Veterans Administration Hospital and he also worked a number of years for the U.S. Postal Service. He holds a bachelor's degree in English with a minor in journalism, graduating with High Honor from AIC, where he was also awarded the Katheryn I. Gordon Award for excellence in the survey of English Literature. He earned his master's degree in Library and Information Science at SUNY Albany. Ken was born in Worcester, Massachusetts, and grew up in Northampton. He currently resides in a large condominium in Chevy Chase, Maryland and is active on two committees there.
As an undergraduate Ken's major emphasis was in American Literature, where he fell in love with works by Herman Melville, Mark Twain, O'Henry and many other American writers.
The two current works by Ken are the product of writing that he started while he was working in the Postal Service, over forty years ago. The latest work, Spell Bound, completed recently, is the culmination of a significant effort to bring his thoughts to life.
