For 30 years, Susan taught preschool and helped to create and administer early childhood education programs designed to give under-served incoming kindergartners the skills they need for school success.
"The first school experience should feel like a magical journey, one that encourages children to explore, imagine and express themselves freely. My curriculum was based on hands-on learning. My classroom was filled with great children’s literature, poetry, and music. I believe that the arts expand a young child’s world and inspire creativity and the joy of learning. I believe the most important part of teaching children is to provide an environment where children are respected and listened to."
Susan and her husband are now retired and live in the Outer Banks, North Carolina. Susan volunteers in her community and has written and illustrated three children's books.
