Robert E. Wright

Childhood; born on “Veterans Day” November 11th 1949 in Indianapolis Indiana. Grew up in Lockefield Gardens, an inner-city housing project located two miles west of downtown Indianapolis.

Education; on June of 1968 graduated from Crispus Attucks High School in Indianapolis Indiana. In May of 1983 received a Diploma from Indiana Christian University in Old and New Testament Studies. On May 10th 2014 received an Associates of Arts Degree majoring in “Leadership and Ministry” from Crossroads Bible College in Indianapolis Indiana. On, May 9th 2015 received a Bachelor of Science Degree in “Church Management and Ethics” from Crossroads Bible College.

Work career; started in 1968 as a Residential Installer with Indiana Bell Telephone Company. After 26 years of service, retired as a Project Manager in Network Operations on October 1st 1994. On October 2nd, started a new career with the Eastern Star Church in Indpls, IN. Under the leadership of Senior Pastor Jeffrey A. Johnson Sr. served as the Chief Administrator, and after 21 years in full-time ministry retired on December 31st 2015. Currently serves on the Finance Team, the Church Council and as Chairman of the Deacon Board.

Military Career; drafted into the United Army July 22, 1969. Served two years and was honorably discharged on July 21, 1969. Service included a tour of duty in Vietnam as a Combat Infantryman with the 101st Airborne Division. Earned numerous medals and accommodation including the Bronze Star and the Air Medal (2nd Award).

Weapons of War was a project I enjoyed for several reasons. It brought back the memories of my youth, I can see how God has guided my steps and at the same time guarded my path, and if anyone has any questions about the Vietnam War I now have a story I can tell. A soldier’s story.

In 2013, I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease. Dealing with that was not on my bucket list for retirement. But God is good. I joined a program called Rock Steady Boxing. They have a fitness program that consist of non-contact boxing and core strength development to counter-act and even slow down the effects of the disease. I really enjoy it. Like Vietnam, Parkinson’s is just another test that came at a different stage in life. But God is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. He’s been with me through every stage of my life. As long as the curtain is up the show goes on.
