Son of a navy engineer and a professional gambler, Jack carries on the colorful traditions into which he was born, in large part through his writing. Born in San Diego in 1948, his love of writing to entertain others was instilled by his fifth-grade teacher, and he has never looked back. He joined the service to dodge the draft, sailed a wooden ship in a navy made of steel, and cruised the Orient on the deck of a tanker, all before his 21st birthday.
As a writer, Jack has dabbled in fantasy, action/adventure, crime, and science fiction, but none of those really seized his imagination until he discovered steampunk, the genre that combines them all into one grand tapestry. Beyond the Rails, his airship adventures in the skies of colonial Africa, have been described by one reviewer as "Jules Verne meets Firefly," his whimsical ghost story in the Den of Antiquity anthology was well-received by readers, and his epic fantasy, The Stone Seekers, takes you on a journey of swords and spells with nary a hint of Tolkien's influence.
