Marcel Wormsley

Marcel Wormsley is poet, mental health advocate, arts enthusiast and United States military veteran. Raised in Houston, TX, Mr. Wormsley has been writing since the age of 9. By his mid-teens, poetry would become the primary medium through which his unique voice would emerge. After his 6-year stint in the United States Coast Guard where he served as an Operations Specialist throughout the Eastern Pacific and Gulf Coast regions, he returned to Houston where he worked in book and magazine distribution while studying philosophy at the University of Houston.

After leaving the industry in 2012, he began the most productive and prolific phase of his writing journey to date, publishing a blog and contributing articles for publication to various non-profit arts organizations. Along the way he has collaborated with various composers/instrumentalists. One of his works, "Give Peace This Day," was adapted by contemporary neo-Classical composer Gaby Kapps and commissioned for a school choir and orchestra in Jericho, Vermont in 2017. In 2019, he published his debut collection of poetry titled In Search of Moonlit Crevices through Galveston-based independent publishing company Dawnbreaker Press, and has performed live readings throughout the Houston area. He is currently working on his second book of poems under the same label and looks forward to eventually becoming a regular fixture in the Houston poetry scene.

Additionally, Mr. Wormsley enjoys playing the piano, promoting classical music concerts and networking with fellow classical music aficionados throughout the Houston area via the community he founded, Houston Classical Music Lovers.

As part of his mental health advocacy, he has been involved with a number of local mental health organizations over the years. In 2018 he founded Empowered Connections through Mental Health: Houston, a weekly peer support group whose purpose is to foment positive change through community building, collaboration and service. This is accomplished through the normalization of candid conversations in public spaces about living with mental health conditions while providing an ongoing space of encouragement, accountability and support for those currently dealing with mental health issues.

Mr. Wormsley very much looks forward to embarking on the next phase of his creative, professional, and advocacy journey, hoping to stir as many hearts as he can in the process. He is truly honored to be of service to his community.
