Thomas O'Connor MD

Dr. Thomas O'Connor MD, a Connecticut based Board Certified internist who has been writing as the "Anabolic Doc" for over a decade, documents the alarming increase in anabolic steroid (AAS) use in America, notably among teens. While over 4 million Americans currently use AAS, with 1 million having become dependent on these highly addictive drugs, the public and many medical professionals continue to believe that use is limited to professional and Olympic athletes. The result is that, despite the serious side effects which all users experience eventually, few physicians are knowledgeable enough to either to treat these or to offer medically safe and effective cessation. This gap is contributing to what Dr O'Connor warns is a "burgeoning AAS epidemic which is hiding in plain sight". He describes the major health effects related to AAS use, and describes evidence-based protocols which are available for medically assisted cessation. And he systematically challenges the quasi-science of the underground/Intenet so-called "bro-science" on which users depend, and which contributes to dangerous levels and combinations of use. His videos can be seen weekly on the Muscular Development podcast, "Ask the Anabolic Doc".
