Maxine Sarr

My name is Maxine Sarr and although I was born in Leicester, I grew up in Manchester. Books have been my passion since as long as I could read. Growing up in Newton Heath they were my way of escape to Narnia, into secret gardens, on the hilltop with Heidi.

I have an eclectic taste in reading matter these days. Before and during my lawyer years all I wanted to read were crime novels and stuffy law books. It took a long time to break myself out of that habit and learn there was so much more good reading material out there.

My favourite books are A Tale of Two Cities, The Portrait of Dorian Gray, A Fine Balance and Rust and Bone. Those are the four I can remember. I've read so much that I couldn't possibly remember every book I read but those four I re-read on a regular basis.

I live in Ecuador and teach English as a Second Language. Ecuador has given me the luxury to be able to adjust my work to my needs, i.e. I have jumped off the hamster wheel of life in England to work to achieve my basic needs, food, shelter, etc. the rest of the time I intend to write and read, walk and enjoy life. It's too short not to.
