Timothy P. Schultz

During his twenty-six years in the U.S. Air Force, Tim Schultz (1966-) was an instructor pilot in a variety of aircraft including the supersonic T-38 and the high-altitude/near space reconnaissance U-2. He combined his unique aviation background and worldwide operational experience with a lot of time in graduate school, including a Ph.D. in History from Duke University where he studied our evolving relationship with technology. As a military aviator he was surprised to learn that pilots are the biggest problem in aviation. As a historian he wanted to learn why. This book is the result and provides a compelling perspective on technological change and human adaptation. Formerly the Commandant and Dean of the U.S. Air Force’s School of Advanced Air and Space Studies, he now serves as the Associate Dean of Academics at the U.S. Naval War College.
