John Rhyder

John is an expert wildlife tracker, naturalist, woodsman, and writer, As the founder and Head Instructor of Woodcraft School, he has developed a wealth of knowledge and practical skills, making him one of the UK’s leading authorities in bushcraft, wildlife tracking, and ethnobotany.

John holds the title of Senior Tracker, certified by CyberTracker Conservation, and serves as an evaluator for both track and sign identification and animal trailing. He is also the European track and sign external evaluator for the CyberTracker system and has been endorsed as an instructor in natural navigation by Tristan Gooley and his School of Natural Navigation. A co-founder of European Wildlife Tracking, John is committed to promoting wildlife tracking and the CyberTracker system across Europe.

With over 30 years of professional teaching experience in bushcraft, tracking, and related skills, John’s journey in outdoor education began long before formal teaching. He has spent his entire life studying, working, and being immersed in the outdoors, gaining hands-on knowledge that underpins all of his work.
