Ida Milne is a social historian who lectures in European history at Carlow College, and a historian of disease, specialising in the 1918-1918 influenza pandemic. In 2020, she has become a frequent media contributor on the short and long term effects of that pandemic, which she sees as having many parallels with the Covid-19 crisis. She specialises in using oral history to capture personal stories of disease.
Her other active fields of research include Irish Protestant identity, working lives in medicine and in the newspaper industry, and women in science, medicine and journalism
