Contemporary English language poet Edouard d'Araille released his début volume ‘In a Short Space of Time’ in 1999, of which late Prof. John Bayley wrote, "this is technically fascinating and moving poetry”. Since then, 17 other full-length works have appeared in print, including Part 1 of the 3-volume 'Book of Jesus: A Unified Gospel in English Verse' in 2025.
A wide range of themes are represented in Edouard d'Araille's poetry, including war in 'The Fallen' (2015), love in 'Love Immortal' (2015; 2025), ultimatums in 'Now or Never' (2011) and despair in 'Out of the Ghetto' (2017). Some works of his are written under pseudonyms, including 'Love Me When I Die' (2000) as Adam Pathos, 'The Lost Verse' as Soma Amritah (2001) and 'Ground Zero' (2000; 2006) as Ludo Chronos.
Edouard d'Araille's best-selling poetic work is ‘Adapa’s Ascent’ which tells the story of Adapa, who must decide whether to accept the gift of immortality offered him in heaven. It is the translation of an ancient myth, perhaps the oldest, from Mesopotamian cuneiform tablets into English verse. First released in 2020, it is now available in a fully illustrated edition (2024) and a student edition (2025) with a wealth of supplementary critical materials. Prof. Shlomo Izre'el, a leading scholar in Assyriology, writes of d'Araille's introductory essay 'The Birth of Fiction': “This is a wonderful piece of work and a real contribution to literature”.
Edouard d'Araille's poetic style varies significantly between his works, though it is unified in its use of simple yet highly evocative vocabulary and endless playfulness with the interplay of words, visually as much as linguistically. Three anthologies that present a wide range of his poetry are ‘Poesia Nueva’ (2002), ‘Words Can’t Hold...’ (2008) and 'WMD: Words of Mass Destruction' (2017).
For those new to the writings of Edouard d'Araille, the volume 'Je Suis Poëte' (2021; 2024) provides a retrospective survey of over 25 years of verse, featuring core extracts from 17 of his key poetic works.
For parents wishing to introduce their children to the art of poetry, 2025 saw the release of 'My Alphabet Book: An ABC of Stories in Verse', in which Edouard d'Araille brings to life 26 fairy tales and nursery stories in poetry for kindergarten and primary school level.
