As William Faulkner advised, I "tell about the South. What's it's like there. What do they do there? Why do they live there? Why do they live at all." And he also wrote-- "the past is never dead. It's not even past." I grew up in a small Alabama town that centered on a cotton mill. My five mystery novels are set in a fictional version of that town and depict various aspects of living in the South from the early years of the 20th century to the 1990s. My most recent book is a history of Alabama City, my hometown.
I am Jane Mitchell--an Alabama author living in Gainesville, Florida. My five Alabama mysteries are--And Grace Will Lead Me Home, Trees with Angel Hair, Black Creek Rising, You Can't Ride This Train, and Long Time Travelin' Here Below. My non-fiction book is Alabama City--A Town Built with Cotton and Steel.
