Southern born and bred--my writing could be nothing less. I've lived in six Southern states and currently live in Montgomery, Alabama, with my husband of sixty-one years. We have two children and three grandsons. At the age of seventy-five, my novel, "ONLY A BREEZE," was published. It had evolved slowly and came as a surprise to everyone I knew and, honestly, to me as well. I was uplifted and encouraged by friends and relatives as they read my novel and loved the characters as I did. More overwhelming was the encouraging comments from strangers. Thank you for reading, "Only a Breeze!" As you view my author photos, the one of me riding a camel may give a glimpse of my sense of humor and wantabee-adventurer side. My writing has brought new experiences, new friends and numerous unexpected blessings. I've learned to enjoy speaking to small groups, to more graciously answer to the title of author, and am more bold in saying, "You'll love my stories." God is good.
My second novel, "ALTERED PLANS," was released in late 2018. This, I thought, would be the last. But, I was asked for MORE. in mid-2019, a nugget of an idea came to me--so, "A CHILD'S DREAM was completed and released in December of 2019.
The fourth novel, "A YEAR IN HALCYON" was released early in 2022 after what I think of as a false start in 2021. I almost released it as a novella and pulled back at the last minute, feeling it wasn't ready. After a rewrite and the birth of new characters, I was ready for you to visit the town of Halcyon, Alabama. Personal note and an early review from one of my male readers. I'd told him this one was more of a romance novel than the others. He sent this email: "You did it again. I really enjoyed Halcyon. I am not a " Romanic Novel" reader but you put it together so well I almost read it all at one setting. My favorite was the girl who _____________" and the way you wove the ______ through the story. Good job!" (Author deleted the spoilers.)
I am asked which book is my favorite. Though I learned and evolved as an author, "Only a Breeze," will always be my first love. If I edited it now, I might change punctuation or wording, but I still adore Aleksander and Mikhai,l and I could never forget Ilene Carpenter! I'd love to hear from my readers about which novel or character is your favorite! Email me at oabgm8@gmail.com.
Each novel is different but all are uplifting stories including intrigue, faith, forgiveness, humor, and romance. Thank you for reading! Barbara
