Gregory Saur has written numerous novels for young people, including DIVING CATCH, BEST SHOT FORWARD, THE POND SCUM GANG, and SOCCER STAR. He has twice been listed as the semifinalist for the Gertrude Warner Book Award. Since the age of 5, his career goal was to become a star football player and then a professional author. After much inner turmoil, he decided to forgo his football career, giving up fame and riches, to write full-time. In the meantime, he’s a schoolteacher where he frequently displays his amazing athletic ability against 3rd graders. He lives in a fantasy world somewhere deep in his mind.
Hello! Thank you for checking out my books. My dream to be a writer started in the first grade and has grown ever since. I grew up in a big family and all my siblings, and parents loved to read (and still do!). Reluctant to read at first, my mom got me hooked on great stories by reading to me every night. I have always loved stories and listening to them was not enough. I had to read them myself. Eventually, I had to write them myself. Since I am still "breaking through" as a writer (I've only been doing this for 20 years...) and do not have an audience, I write for my younger self. My "middle-grade" years (ages 9-12) were the best years of my life. They were also the years I struggled the most to find good books. Many times I would start a book and then daydream about what SHOULD happen next... often these daydreams went with me, sometimes for years (especially during math class). The older I get the more I think about my younger years and the fun I had growing up. This is what fuels my books. I strive to make my stories real enough to be true but also have a sense of wonder where anything and everything is possible. Since I loved adventure, sports, and danger as a kid, expect a lot to show up in my stories. I currently do not have an agent or any understanding of the crazy publishing world (or the real world, for that matter), so I am doing this on my own... which is an adventure, I promise. Perhaps my books will never get popular, but that is okay. If my younger self ever finds them, I know he would be thrilled.
