Lawrence Shimkets was raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where he enjoyed the Steelers, Pirates, and Penguins, and the blue-collar atmosphere. He won the Presidential Young Investigator Award from US President Ronald Reagan in 1984 which launched a career in scientific research at the University of Georgia in microbiology, genetics and biochemistry. In 2017 he became Emeritus Professor and adopted a new career writing fiction. His first paperback, Malice in the Palace, 2018, is a fast-paced thriller that embraces diversity, inclusion, and self-realization. It was a popular title and has been re-released in eBook format in 2020. His second book, Journey to Justice, came out in June 2020 in both paperback and eBook formats.
